19 Feb Introducing Zephyr!
I picked up Lotta Jansdotter’s Sylvia collection when I was at Quilt Market last fall. I mean, black and white print? Yes! Lotta? Yes! Who could resist?
I had an idea about some large leaves and an applique method I wanted to try; I added some beautiful blue background (Kona Stratosphere) and Zephyr was born.
Each leaf is about 12″ tall and the whole quilt finishes at 54″ square. I drew a few curvy lines to add to the idea of a light breeze and echo quilted them across the quilt and across the leaves as well. That is unusual for me, but the leaves are quite large and I didn’t want to disrupt the flow of the breeze quilting.
I backed the quilt with a piece of Kona Peridot and I love the color combination with the front – it may show up in a quilt of its own some day. Don’t you love that bias binding too?
So where can you get the pattern for this quilt? Only in the Modern Quilt Guild newsletter.
All this year, the Modern Quilt Guild is including a free pattern in their monthly newsletter. If you are a member of the Modern Quilt Guild, whether through a local guild or an individual member, the link is in the February newsletter in your mailbox now.
After all the snow we’ve had this winter, Zephyr makes me feel like Spring might arrive one day….
