Debbie’s mission is to add a little beauty to the world and to help others do the same. Her current work focuses on abstract, minimal, modern wall quilts, often in black and white solids. In 2017, she completed a 100 Day Project making a finished 10″ mini quilt every day for 100 days. View the completed quilts on her website (http://debbiegrifka.com) or on Instagram at #100daydg. For 2018, Debbie completed a 100 Day Project called 100 Days of Improv Appliqué (Instagram #dg100daysofapplique).
A lifelong sewist and maker, Debbie began quilting in 2002. Finding inspiration several years later in the online modern quilting community, Debbie designed patterns as Esch House Quilts. Her work has been exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, QuiltCon and the American Quilter’s Society and has been published in many books and magazines including Modern Patchwork. Debbie’s book, Lines by Design Quilts, (Fons & Porter) was published in early 2016. Her quilt, Canterbury #2, won first place in the Appliqué category at QuiltCon in 2018.
Debbie enjoys sharing her love of quilting and creativity with others by visiting guilds to lecture and teach. She is active on Instagram (@debbiegrifka) and Facebook (@eschhousequilts) and can be found online at http://debbiegrifka.com. Debbie is past President of the Ann Arbor (MI) Modern Quilt Guild and a member of the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild.
