16 Jan Best Modern Quilts Blog Tour!
Welcome to Day 4 of the Best Modern Quilts blog tour! I’m Debbie Grifka of Esch House Quilts and there are very few things I’d rather do than design and make modern quilts! Quilter’s Newsletter, publisher of Best Modern Quilts, is giving away copies of the magazine and some wonderful fabric every day of the blog tour. Leave a comment on this blog (not theirs) to be entered for today’s giveaway. Entries close Thursday, Jan 16 at 12 midnight MST. Be sure to leave your email address so we can reach you if you are the winner. The contest is closed now. Thanks for playing along!
Crosswalk |
The quilt I have in this special issue is called Crosswalk. You might think I looked at a crosswalk and was inspired to make the quilt. Sometimes I work that way, but not this time. This time, I wanted to design something with open rectangle “boxes”. I love their simplicity and shape. So I played around with some sizes and layouts and settled on my final design. Then, when I looked at the finished quilt, I thought it looked kind of like a crosswalk. Sometimes I think coming up with the name is the hardest part of making a quilt! (I’m so glad I took that picture last year as this quilt definitely wouldn’t show up well with all the snow we have now!)
If you’re new here, I hope you’ll take a minute to look around. I have some fun free projects available and I’d love to come to your area to teach for your guild or fabric shop. You can also check out my patterns in either my Etsy or Craftsy shops.
Thanks for stopping by and good luck!
(PS You can buy a copy of Best Modern Quilts here)

Posted at 23:45h, 16 JanuaryPatterns like Crosswalk are what got me back to quilting. I've been experimenting with mainly solids for the past 1.5 years and have enjoyed the challenge! With traditional fabrics, it's so easy to hide the quilting and the piecing errors.
Thank you for adding your art to the quilting world. It's good to be quilting again.
