A baby quilt is on the way!

I get to make a baby quilt!  How fun is that!  My husband’s niece is expecting a baby and her shower is coming up.  She’s such a lovely young woman and I know she’ll be a great mom 🙂

I’ve been thinking about simple boxes lately so I decided to use that idea for this quilt.  The fact that it will be fast to make is important as I get home from Quilt Market on Oct 29 and the shower is Nov 3 – not much time.  Good thing babies only need small quilts!

Since the I understand the baby will be a boy, I went with a blue background.  The boxes will be white, orange, yellow, purple and green.  Suitably boyish colors, but OK for a girl too should the medical team be mistaken (probably not, but I’ve known several cases where they have been…).

Most of the fabrics are Robert Kaufman Kona solids – Lapis for the background and White, Canary, Mulberry and Grass Green for the boxes.  I’m also using an orange solid from my stash.  These days, I’m careful to label the solids I purchase, but this is from a group I bought about five years ago before I thought to keep track.  The cheerful dot from the “Alphabet Soup” line by Delphine Cubitt for Henry Glass will make the perfect back.
I can’t wait to get started!
