13 Mar 0-600 Minutes
I was chatting last week with some other artists about my 100 Day Project and one asked me if I was putting it on my blog. Obviously, I haven’t been. But why not? Insert shrugging emoji here! Rather than putting each day’s work on the blog, I plan to post about each finished project. You can read more about what I’m doing for my 2020 100 Day Project, 6000 Minutes, here.
The first project I completed was Three Pines. I made an improv evergreen tree before the Christmas holidays last year and I wanted to expand on that idea. Cutting it in half and mounting it on two canvases was even more fun. The left side is 16″ x 12″ and the right side is 9″ x 12″. It is called Three Pines for obvious reasons, but it is also a nod to one of my favorite book series set in Three Pines, Quebec by Louise Penny. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I sew. This was Days 1-3.
For Days 4-5, I wanted to play with some random, organic lines. I made a pillow for a friend last summer with this idea and, again, I wanted to revisit the idea and play some more. I called this one Grifology #5 as part of my series of marks that look like language. This is a more abstract interpretation of that idea, but these kinds of line are my fabric language. It is 24″ x 8″.
Next up was a slightly larger piece at 20″ x 20″. Another idea I wanted to try: a cityscape. Are you sensing a theme here? That is one of the fun things about this project. I get to try ideas I’ve had floating around in my brain for a while and haven’t taken the time to pursue. So, a cityscape made it to the top of the list on days 6-10. The quilting on this one is very close ranging from less than an eighth of an inch to a bit more than a quarter. It took about six hours to complete the whole piece.
