100 Days of Improv Applique!

So this post is a bit late!  I haven’t been blogging much lately, but I’m hoping to do better.

Many of you already know about the 100 Day Project I’m doing this year.  I’ve been enjoying your comments on Instagram (@debbiegrifka) and on Facebook (eschhousequilts)!  I wanted to put this post up so there is a spot to explain the project to those who missed the original announcement.

So, join me for 100 Days of Improv Appliqué!  (Well, about 78 left now)AnnouncementPic250

I had such fun with my 100 Day Project last year, I’m doing it again this year!  (#DG100DaysofAppliqué)

I will be using improvisational appliqué to make a 4″ x 6″ postcard quilt using black and white fabric each day for 100 days.

I love appliqué – I can put any shape I want anywhere I want.  It is such a wonderful technique to explore my creativity.

Can I come up with 100 small designs using only black and white?  I really don’t know!  But that is part of the fun and the challenge.  I won’t be using prompts this year as I really want to flex my improv muscles.

I also want to get you involved this time!  Last fall, Michelle Wilke created a postcard project where she made quilted postcards and sent them out to people.  She asked that those of us lucky enough to receive one consider paying it forward and sending a postcard to someone else.  So, 10 of my 100 Day pieces will be sent to 10 of you.

If you’d like to be one of the 10, here’s how:

It is super simple!  Just leave a comment on my 100 Day posts – either on Facebook or Instagram (one comment per person per post will count).  One week after each post, I will enter the names of the commenters in an Excel spreadsheet.  At the end of the project, I will use a random number generator to choose ten numbers and those people will get to choose a postcard from the ones I’ve created.  More comments mean more chances, but you can only win once.

I hope you’ll follow along!

Great to see your postcards! I’ve made a number of postcards myself. Usually I make a picture of something (which is usually fairly complicated). Love that yours are simple and that the quilting lines add so much. I will try that next time I make a postcard. Then it won’t take me all day to make it!

Enjoying your project. Very interested in how you’re making these – what are you using for batting and backing?
