01 Mar Charity Challenge – March
Welcome to March’s #ehqcharitychallenge! Connext was a fun, fast quilt to make. Per my plan in the last Charity Challenge post, I used a mottled orange fabric from my stash and some white solid. I used more white for the binding to add a bit more pop!
March’s quilt plan, Regatta, was inspired by a wonderful piece of fabric I received in a fabric swap a while ago. I wish I had been smart enough to take a picture of the fabric for you before I cut it up. (Of course, this is the only time during my Charity Challenge that I’ve made the quilt before posting the plan!) While I doubt I ever would have bought this fabric in a shop, I think it is adorable and I hope will make a child somewhere smile! The ships were too cute to cut up, so I decided on a strippy layout. The size of the strips was totally based on the repeat in this particular fabric – so if you’d like to use the idea but your fabric has a different size repeat you have two choices: change the width of the other strips or let the quilt be bigger or smaller. As designed, the quilt finishes at 36″ x 48″. You can get the free pattern download here.
Isn’t this fabric adorable? It is from the Out to Sea collection by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller from a few years ago.
