17 Mar A new project!

Circle Lattice |
Two things I’ve had on my mental must-do list have finally made it to reality! When I first saw Carolyn Friedlander‘s Circle Lattice quilt in her Savor Each Stitch book, I thought it was amazing. Then when I saw Carolyn’s trunk show I was even more convinced I had to make this quilt! The design is stunning, but I also love the idea that both the background fabric and the appliqué fabric are one piece.
The fabric has a similar story: I have loved Alison Glass‘ fabric forever and have used some of them in my quilts. The Geese in Storm print from Alison’s Handcrafted line has such a wonderfully large repeat, I thought it would be perfect to show off as the background in a Circle Lattice quilt. Bonus – it is a dusty dark blue and I’ve had a dark blue quilt on my mental list too. Add Plus in Chartreuse and I am one happy quilter!
The final piece that made this quilt rise to the top of the long list is that I have been badly in need of a new hand appliqué project! I meet every two weeks with some friends to do handwork and, for the past year or so, I’ve been playing around with several small projects and ideas but I am ready to commit to a new, larger project.
So far, all I’ve done is cut out the appliqué fabric – it is just stuck on top of the background on my design wall so I can see how it looks (that’s why it looks a bit wonky :)). Next steps, square up the background fabric, pin the lattice in place and stitch away! I can’t wait!
How about you? Anything new in the works?

Posted at 17:41h, 17 MarchEnjoy your new larger handwork. I just saw Carolyn's trunk show with this quilt last week. I don't usually go in for handwork myself but I am getting tempted. Sorry to have missed you at QuiltCon. Hope you had as much fun as I did.

Posted at 13:36h, 17 MarchI love this quilt! I bought that book because of that quilt! I love your fabric choices! I didn't realize it's all one piece–the applique part. Oy, that's a lot of waste. Or scraps! I look forward to seeing your progress on this. 🙂
As for my own projects, I am working on a traditional tumbler version of Elizabeth Hartman's Glam Garlands quilt. I am using a text background and Chicopee and various prints for the tumblers.
