09 Nov Sew Solid Sunday #11!
Posted at 14:00h
Hi, I’m Lynn Harris. I blog over at The Little Red Hen. I am thrilled that Debbie asked me to share my latest quilt for Sew Solid Sunday this month. Scrap quilts are my passion but occasionally I like to make a more controlled looking quilt and use only solid fabrics. Inspired by the Infinite Variety show of Red and White quilts in 2011, I have made a few red and white quilts. This more recent finish is also a (more loosely defined) two color quilt in Teal and Orange, one of my all time favorite color combinations.
The background is Peppered Cotton
, in peacock and a variety of orange solids make up the free form circle.
I used Jean Wells’ method for free form cutting and piecing curves to make the orange quarter circle sections. This improvisational way of working is not the way I usually work but I found it to be quite fun and freeing.
The quilt is finished with straight line machine quilting in the background and hand quilting in the orange arcs.
(This is Debbie popping back in to thank Lynn for guest posting on Sew Solid Sunday! If you are a scrap-lover like Lynn is, be sure to check out her upcoming book, Every Last Piece
