Escape! – new quilt pattern and giveaway #2

I love quilt blocks that make secondary designs.  One day earlier this year, I sat down to play around with some quilt designs with the idea of designing a block that made secondary circles.  I didn’t like any of the arrangements I came up with, but I kept playing.  Somewhere along the line, I drew the Escape block and thought, “Hey, I kind of like that” – no circles, but yes, let’s go with that one instead!

I love the way that one little square “escapes” the rest of the block!  Then, when I saw Lotta Jansdotter’s new Follie line, I knew it was perfect for this quilt!  Some of the prints in the line are large scale and give the visual effect that the background “escapes” its proper place and jumps into the printed parts of the block.

Maybe it sounds a bit nutty, but these are the things that make me happy 🙂  It also makes me happy that Escape works so well with fat quarters.  After all, what is more fun than a beautiful bundle of fat quarters that become a favorite quilt!  You can get four Escape blocks from a fat quarter, but I chose to use more fabric and only made two blocks from each fat quarter in the quilt above.

The Escape pattern includes five size from baby to full/queen.  The quilt shown is the throw size at 54″ x 74″.  Kathy Koch of ThreadBear Quilting did the amazing quilting.

Escape is available in both paper and PDF versions – paper in my Etsy shop and PDF in both Etsy and Craftsy shops.  Shop owners interested in wholesale can email me.

The Fat Quarter Shop has generously agreed to give a fat quarter bundle of Follie to one of my lucky readers – are they amazing or what!  To enter the giveaway, leave me a comment.  Winter is fast approaching in my neck of the woods, so tell me if you have a favorite winter quilt you are looking forward to snuggling under as the temperatures drop.  I’ll pick a winner randomly at the end of the day on Saturday.  I’ll be honest and tell you I probably won’t get around to posting the winner until Wednesday, when I get back from Quilt Market, so you’ll need to have a bit of patience.  Please, please don’t forget to leave your email address in your comment – you can’t win if I can’t reach you!  Good luck!

My winter snuggly is actually 2 pieces of fleece quilted together. But I do have lots of snowman runners and wall hangings scattered about that are favorites to me.

I recently went to a Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness and I won a quilt. It was made by a group of church ladies in a nearby town. I was thrilled. I have given away many quilts in my time and my husband said it was time for me to receive. Can't wait to cuddle up with my new special quilt.

What a fun question! I tend to give away my favorite quilts as gifts, but I have kept a scrappy ugly one that is so soft and snuggly that I love it anyway. And it's nice to have a quilt that I'm not afraid to share with a dog and a sometimes-sticky-fingered granddaughter. Thanks for the giveaway, and have a great time at Quilt Market!

I like Escape–if you flip it, it will look like the solo block is flying off on its owh, ahead of the mothership.

I just pulled out our winter quilt, a very heavy wool and flannel quilt inherited from my grandmother. As kids we called it "the itchy quilt", but I now love its heaviness and texture.

Oh, I am patient! Enjoy Quilt Market and please share with us what you saw! This winter, I will snuggled up with portions of a quilt my grandmother started in 1940! It is a bit stained and is only part of the top, but my plan is to add to it to make it my own. It's small hexies and is many colors. It is literally the only thing I have from her as she died before I was born.
