Sew Solid Sunday!

Welcome back to Sew Solid Sunday!

This month I’m sharing an English Paper Piecing (EPP) project I’ve been working on (on and off) for several months now.  I wanted to try my hand at the ever-popular hexies and had some neutral fabrics that were dying to be used.  I designed this spiral pattern and set to EPPing! You can find a tutorial here.

As I love handwork, it wasn’t a surprise to me that I enjoyed the process of basting the hexies and stitching them together.  I really like the way this warm and cool spiral worked where it looks never-ending – the warm turns the corner into the cool and vice versa.

The greys did not transition from one to the other as smoothly as the creams and, in hindsight, I wish I had purchased a couple more to use instead of relying on what I had on hand.  However, I do try to use what I have in my stash when possible!

Once I finished the spiral section, I set it in Amethyst Kona cotton a bit off center.  I put some batting in and pillowcased it to finish the edges.  I haven’t added any quilting yet and have not really decided what I want to do.  At a minimum, I’ll probably quilt around the outside of the hexy part.  I think it needs something more, but can’t quite decide yet.  What do you think?  Maybe some handstitching?

Some hand stitching would be great. Maybe start with either the greys or the creams?
