Sew Solid Sunday #5

(If you are looking for the Modern Patchwork giveaway – it is the previous post here)

Welcome back to Sew Solid Sunday!  This month’s edition is a bit of the future and a bit of the past and a bit of laughing at myself.

Triangle Maze baby size

Last fall as I was getting ready for Quilt Market in Houston, I was looking at the plan I had made for where my new quilts would be hung in my booth.  There was a blank spot – not a very big one, but it really needed a quilt.  I didn’t have much time so I decided to make a baby sized version of my Triangle Maze pattern.  I honestly don’t recall how I decided on the aqua and white color scheme with just a dash of yellow, but I whipped the quilt together and off I went.  When I got to Houston, I discovered that I had been given a corner booth!  Wonderful!!  But my plan needed some quick revision since I only had two walls instead of three.  The new little quilt ended up being the background for my pattern display and not very noticeable.

Dashing detail

I had a wonderful market, came home and promptly forgot about that little quilt.  Fast forward to earlier this year.  I wanted to make a solid version of one of my new patterns, Dashing (more about that soon!) and decided on an aqua and white color scheme.  At the last minute, I added a bit of yellow.  It didn’t hit me until some time later, after the quilt was done, that, hmm, this looks a bit familiar.  I guess it just goes to show that we like what we like!

As much as I love a two-color quilt, I often find myself adding just a dash of a complimentary color.  When working with solids, it can be just the perk a quilt needs.

Have you even used the same colors without meaning to?  Or are you someone who has a set of “go-to” colors that you use all the time?

Happy Mother’s Day to those who are celebrating today!

I haven't done a two color quilt in ages, but if I did, Ithink I'd borrow your third color for accent idea. I like both of your above quilts. Funny, the repetition. I haven't done that one yet. (And alas, no new solid projects this month, or next for that matter as I'll be away from sewing machine for a long time.

I love both quilts and the 'pop' of color…perfect! Every once in a while I like to add the unexpected and most of the time it works!

In general I love the pop of 'extra' color!

I love a 2 color quilt…but like your idea of adding that little extra "pop"! It sure makes it more interesting!
