QATV project #3 – Car trash bag

Who doesn’t need a car trash bag?  I’ve made one version or another of this idea since my girls were small.  I purposely didn’t make my trash bag really large – I wanted it to be for the scraps of paper, wrappers, kleenex and other assorted small bits and pieces that generally accumulate in a car, not to hold the result of drive-thru meals or water bottles, coffee cups and pop cans.

It is a simple bag with a velcro closure and ribbons that I tie to my gear shift.  Some people like to tie theirs to the headrest, so the bag is in back with the little ones.  It would be super easy to upsize this idea if you do want a big trash bag.  In the past, I’ve also made a version using flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth for the lining so it is a little waterproof.  Some of the newer laminated cottons would be perfect inside or out!

Using scraps of my favorite fabrics that I get to see every day makes me smile!  My current trash bag includes pieces of my favorite text print from Sweetwater’s Authentic line – sorry no pics – my car is in serious need of cleaning 🙂

In addition to being on the current season of Quilting Arts TV, you can find the pattern for my Car Trash Bag in Craft Tree Travel Accessories (also available as an e-book – on sale!).
