Gather in Aqua and Red

In the part of the country where I live, there is something iconic about cardinals in winter – their bright color stands out so beautifully against the white snow.  I’ve always wanted to make another version of this pillow for my machine applique class, and, with several classes coming up in the next few months, now was the right time and winter cardinals were the perfect inspiration!

Most of the red fabrics I used are from Kate Spain’s In From The Cold line (love those coffee cups too!) plus a few from my stash.  The background Sketch fabric is by Timeless Treasures and the branch is from Alison Glass’ Sun Print line.  I got all of them from Pink Castle Fabrics.

I’ll be teaching Machine Applique (this pillow is the project) for:

  • the CAMEO Quilt Guild on Saturday, November 23 in Clawson, MI.  The name of their guild, CAMEO, stands for Come And Meet Each Other – isn’t that great!  (best to snail mail form)
  • The Georgia Quilt Show next Friday Sept 20, a week from today!  The Machine Applique class is full, but I’m also teaching Hand Applique and Bias Applique there too (Hand on Friday, Bias on Saturday)
  • The Greater Ann Arbor (MI) Quilt Guild on January 17, 2014.  Registration for members is open now, non-members can register after December 7.

There are so many great ways to learn something new – books, DVDs, YouTube, online, but there is something wonderful about being in a room full of people who love the same things you do and setting aside the time to focus on that.  Even if you can’t attend one of my classes, I hope you get the chance to take a class somewhere soon!  If you could, what would you take?
