Still Thinking Positive…

I love grey and white together!  I often design quilts in a grey and white color scheme (or lack-of-color scheme?), but then choose different fabrics when it comes time to make the quilt.  This time, for the second version of Think Positive, I decided to stick with the grey and white.  Two color quilts just make me smile!  This is the throw sized version and finishes at about 51″ x 73″.  The fabrics are Robert Kaufman Kona Coal and White.

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen this picture where I was tempted to go with Berry for the binding.  I used it on the back and it looked so pretty while I was quilting that I thought very seriously about doing it.  Most of the people on social media (it landed on Facebook and Twitter too) were in the pro-Berry camp.  However, for me, this quilt is about the grey and the white.  Using Berry for the binding felt like I’d be telling grey and white that they weren’t good enough to be a quilt all by themselves – that they needed a little punch to keep them from being boring.  Since that isn’t what I think, I decided to save the grey, white, berry combo for another quilt and use white for the binding as I had originally planned.

I’m playing with some new ways to photograph my quilts.  It is important to me that I can see the whole quilt.  What do you think of this “on the bed” shot?  I love the way the light falls across the quilt.  Does it seem weird to photograph a throw sized quilt on a bed?  Any thoughts or advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

Would it be ok if I shared a photo from this post in my next newsletter where I’m featuring Swiss Cross projects? I’d link back here of course. Thanks for considering!

Nice quilt! Quilts are made to go on beds, so it's never weird to have them photographed on a bed.

I however take the trouble to pin a hanging sleeve on a finished quilt and take it outside (I can hang it from my garage eaves with a large dowel I bought). It's a pain in the butt for 30 minutes but SO worth while I think. Or you can have two people hold either end of the rod and stand on chairs if you don't have an outside space. Anything to get a shot straight on. Good luck!

I love the grey and white, and I bet the berry on the back is fabulous. The first thing I thought when I saw your post was how much I liked the first photo, though. Getting good quilt pictures can be such a challenge, and I think you found a great solution!

Pretty quilt. Love the reversed color patch in the corner. Great photo, not at all weird looking to photograph a lap quilt like that.

lovely. I'd also like to see a close-up of the quilting. and I like the bed shot. It gives me an idea of the size and layout of the quilt.

I love the quilt….I don't have enough self restraint to stay with two colours, maybe someday.

Debbie, I love this one. I also have a weakness for two color quilts.
