Think Positive!

Lotta Pluses – 51″ x 58″

My newest pattern is called “Think Positive”.  I am, by nature, an optimist, but a little reminder can’t hurt!  Plus quilts are so much fun!  I designed this one to look like the pluses are randomly placed (they’re not).

The fabric is mostly Bella by Lotta Jansdotter with a little Echo thrown in.  I was inspired by the quilts of Yoshiko Jinzenji to try making blocks where the fabric in the block background blends with the quilt background so that, sometimes, the plus shape is lost and it isn’t clear where the block begins and ends.  Love that!

There is a plus in there!

The quilt I’m currently working on is another version of Think Positive that is very graphic – the pluses definitely show up on this one!

I quilted Lotta Pluses by drawing an imaginary wonky plus over the whole quilt and then echo-quilting around it.

A few pattern details:  six sizes from baby to queen/king – Lotta Pluses is the Youth size.  The pluses can be made with charm squares or scraps.  This is a very beginner friendly pattern as it only has squares and rectangles and few spots to match up.  If your local quilt shop doesn’t have the pattern, you can get a paper version from my Etsy shop or a PDF version from Etsy, Craftsy or PatternSpot.com.

PS I made a minor alteration to this quilt that isn’t included in the pattern – I just had to make one of the pluses into a minus.  Not sure if it was my contrary-side or realist-side but there it is 🙂

This is the third plus based quilt I’ve made.  You can see the others here and here.  What about you?  Have you made a plus quilt?  More than one?

I absolutely love this quilt. I am currently working on my own plus sign quilt and incorporated your negative sign in my top too! I thought that was the best idea. You can't really appreciate the positive without experiencing a bit of the negative, right?

I love these whites! I've been thinking about the same yoshiko jinzenji style with the lotta prints, but haven't gotten to it yet. Very nice.

I never have but I love how they look. I especially like that some of the fabrics in this one do blend into the background

I haven't made any 'plus' quilts yet – but this one is different. I haven't been quilting much this summer but this might change all that!
