Bliss of another kind

I thought yesterday would be a blissful sewing day.  My younger daughter (on semester break) took the bus to Chicago to visit my older daughter and my computer was in the shop, so what else to do but sew, sew, sew!  I had big plans to do a lot of quilting on the new/original version of Spell It Out.

A call from the computer repair shop interrupted my plans …”I’m sorry to say that your system is shot and we’ll have to wipe the hard drive and start again…”  That sent me in search of my backup/flash drive, backed up the day before, which I then couldn’t find.  Minor panic ensued!!  It had to be buried in those papers somewhere!  I knew it was well past time to do some major paper organizing, so now was obviously the time.  A few, ahem, hours later, some clear countertop space!

You’ll note my lovely laptop back where it belongs.  I won’t say this too loudly for fear of tempting fate, but, so far, it has been a breeze to reinstall the things I use the most – it took about two hours this afternoon to reinstall programs and copy documents and pictures from that flash drive (found about 20 minutes into the clean-up yesterday).

It feels so good to have my work space clean!

However, it the spirit of keeping it real, I must show you the shelves which are just out of view at the right end of my countertop.  Definitely in need of some work – it’s a never ending process 🙂

How about you?  Are you a “clean as you go” type or the “wait until I can’t find anything and it’s driving me crazy” type?

My sewing room is pretty small. I clean up after each project. During a project it gets pretty messy. Sometimes, I can't find things or run out of room to work. When that happens, I take a few hours to clean up and re-organize before returning to the project.

I am actually both. I usually clean up after each project, wipe the slate clean and start another. other times, I can't wait to get started on something else so I work around the mess until it drives me crazy and then I clean up. This morning my plan is to do a BIG clean-up. I've been in a bit of a rut lately and maybe cleaning up will help me get out of it!

My sewing room is a mess. That's why I have so many UFOs. I did, however, get a design wall this weekend!!! I am hoping that will help me keep projects going through to the finish.

those shelves look alarmingly familiar to me. I tend to tidy every few months, and then gradually end up in a pile of chaos until I can't stand it any more!

I'm definitely a 'clean-as-I-go" type! My husband would divorce me if I didn't- I sew in our bedroom!

Haha. Your shelves remind me of my entire sewing room. I'm a little of both. I try to tidy up as I go, but often, things spin out of control…too many projects going on at once, etc. So, then I have to do the major clean and purge. Glad your computer is functioning okay again!

I'm a wait until I can't find anything and I've gone crazy before I start to tidy up type. As long as I can move stuff over to make a space big enough to cut or sew, I'm good!

totally a wait until I can't find anything and it's driving me crazy.

I can still fit at my sewing machine and have just enough room to sew so all it good for now.
