SMS Giveaway Week!

It’s a very lucky thing for me that Sew, Mama, Sew decided to expand their Giveaway Day to a Week.  I have been dealing with the worst cold I’ve had in years and that put me way behind on finishing up my giveaway quilt.

Welcome to those of you who are new here!  My name is Debbie and this is where I share my sewing adventures and a little of the rest of my life too.

Some of my regular readers may recognize the pattern I used to make this quilt.  It is my Triangle Maze pattern, which was originally a free pattern here on the blog.  I have updated the pattern and added five more sizes – yes five!  The free pattern was for a crib sized quilt and now I have added the baby size (shown) and throw, twin, full, and queen/king sizes.  You can find the pattern in my Etsy shop or at PatternSpot.

This is the fourth or fifth quilt I’ve made from this pattern and every time I get more ideas for color combinations to try.  Right now, I’d love to make this baby quilt again with lots of pretty pink prints.  I’m not sure if I’d use only pink or whether I might add in a little grey too.

Anyway, giveaway details:
I’m giving away this baby quilt which measures approximately 36″ x 45″.  I used Kona Ash, Bright Peri and Bahama Blue and an orange solid from my stash that is similar to Kona School Bus or Orange.  It has been washed and is full of crinkly goodness.  The vertical quilting lines are quilted with grey thread and the horizontal quilting lines are in aqua thread. The back is the same orange used on the front.

To enter, leave me a comment telling me what color thread you like to use for quilting.  Do you always use white, another color, variegated thread, matching or contrasting?  If you are a follower or become one, leave me a second comment letting me know and you’ll be entered a second time.   (You can follow me on FaceBook too – button in left column)  I am happy to ship internationally.  The giveaway will close at the end of the day on December 16 US EST.  Please be sure to leave me a way to contact you if you are a “no-reply blogger”.

Don’t forget to check out all six categories of giveaways back at Sew, Mama, Sew!

The closest thing I've done to a quilt is a couple of mug rugs on my machine. I used white because I only have one bobbin and can't change it out. It turned out cute!

I prefer to use white thread for quilting but sometimes use different colors depending on the quilt. I've never used a variegated thread.

I have honestly never done a quilt because I am scared to mess the fabric up so one of these days when I get brave enough to try my thread will match the fabric as close as possible so you can't see all my mistakes!!

Oh My Life, this is the best giveaway ever. That quilt is a stunner! I started off using only white thread but now I'm drawn to a very pale grey that seems to blend in with most, and even if it doesn't it's not as obvious as white.

Love the quilt and the pattern. I will be considering it for my 11-year old as I am going to make him a twin size in 2012. I think he would love it! I typically use a color that matches the front so you can't see all my mistakes as well! Thanks so much for the chance! Smiles~Beth

I am a hooooorribble machine quilter, so for machine quilting I always use a thread color that will blend with most of the fabrics. If the project is small and I'm hand stitching I use a cute contrast.

You know, up until recently my quilting thread was either black or white. Lately I have switched it up a bit and have used some variegated, poly filament (which I did not like) and coordinating colors. I like the variegated the best. Thanks for the opportunity to win this sweet baby quilt, it will go into the stack that are going to St. John's Hospital Baby Unit which is being rebuilt after the May tornado. Thank you

Since I'm a newbie, I use the thread that will blend in as much as possible. I'd love to try one project though, with black thread on white fabric and "draw" in the bird legs, outline the bird beaks etc. Just to get over the fear of having my stitches seen 🙂

I think thread choice for me totally depends on how busy the pattern is, if it is simple, then contrasting or variegated looks great, if the pattern is busy, I like to blend in the thread as much as possible.

Hello, what a fun, modern looking quilt!

As for quilting thread colors, I choose the color based on what fabrics I used and how busy they are. But unless it is very busy fabric, I like to use a thread that will call out colors in the quilt but not fight them. My recent one, was a mix of reds, yellows and greens and I used a warm apricot as it blended with some and stood out nicely on the reds and greens.

Hi there – beautiful blog and what a fun quilt pattern … a bit like confetti!

The few quilted projects I've completed have had off-white thread. And printed backing, to conceal as much as possible …

I haven't made many quilts. For the few I've made, I match the thread to the main color. I never thought about doing a different color, but since I quilt them on my home machine with straight (sort of) lines, I probably don't want to highlight the thread. I'm intrigued now though. What about a mostly solid with a wildly different thread?

Ooooh, LOVE that quilt! My 6-month old son will love doing his power tummy time workouts on it! 😀 I'm a contrasting color kinda gal when it comes to thread. It sometimes comes out of not having the matching color I'd prefer and other times I just like the extra zing a yellow thread gives to orange fabric or a red thread on pink or turquoise on cobalt…
Love your giveaway; don't love a bad cold…feel better soon! 😀

    Wow! Beautiful quilt!
The color of thread I use depends on the quilt. Sometimes I like to match, something I like it to be contrasting and I often do most of the quilting with one colour and choose another one to add a fun touch.

I usually try to do something contrasting, but matching — if that makes sense. I used a fuchsia thread on my last quilt, which was a coin stack quilt. The bulk of the quilt was white but the coins were various colors: Pinks, greens, yellows and oranges. The fuchsia matched the coins but was a nice contrast against the white.

I quilt each piece differently. Sometimes the design calls for something that blends in, highlighting what you want to show off. Other times, I want the quilting to stand out, so I will contrast. Sorry, I don't have a single approach for all my pieces, so I can't give you a straight answer.

Sweet baby quilt. I use whatever thread goes with the quilt I am making. Also depends on how much I want the quilting to show.

What a fun quilt! I use variegated thread for everything that will show.

I love this so lively a quilt!!
I have a colorful quilt that has
wedding rings on the front… but when
you turn it over it is white with
a tree of life quilted into it with
green leaves and a brown trunk, it
sounds wild but it is lovely.
I have been stitching the family names
    into it.

What a beautiful quilt! I adore variegated thread, but only use it when I'm quilting a design I know. If I'm trying something new, then I stick to cream or natural.

Hi, This is really a lovely giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win it.
I don't sew, but I love to crochet and knit and the color I use most is green!

I like to match my thread. I love the look of contrasting but I feel like I am not that neat yet at my sewing to do contrasting. Great quilt!

I use a lot of varigated threads, both shiny and flat cottons. Depending on what the quilt calls for I may go contrasting or something that melts in. The baby quilt is adorable.. perfect for my friend's new baby boy!

What a pretty quilt! I have only done tiny quilting projects. Recently I made a quilted pencil case and used a rainbow of different colors of threads to liven up the fabric:).

Holy wow – what a gorgeously modern quilt! Love that pattern.
I'm a fan of matching my thread to my sashing, in general. I tend to use a lot of white – I just like how bright and crisp it is. But I did try a zebra variegated from Aurifil on a halloween quilt and it was pretty darn rad, so I'm starting to veer towards variegateds!

Great looking quilt, I would love to win it 🙂 I have only ever done quilting once on a pillow, I haven't sewn in quite some time but if I ever get to it again, I would love to do some handstitch quilting in a contrasting color!
