December!

I’ve been in denial since Thanksgiving that December and the holidays are coming soon.  I think since today is December 1, I have to finally admit that this is the situation.

It isn’t that I don’t enjoy the holidays – I do. I think it is just that my already busy life needs to kick into a higher gear and part of me really wants to put that off until later 🙂

The Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild met last night and we had a fun ornament swap.  This little mitten is what I made.  I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out but there were some serious moments of doubt along the way.  I started off with a totally different idea that didn’t work out at all.  So after searching all over the internet for a good mitten shape, a trip to JoAnn’s for supplies and an hour or so or stitching, I breathed a sigh of relief that at least I wouldn’t be totally embarrassed to admit which ornament was mine.

I was lucky enough to get this cool kanzashi made by Kathy.  It is such a pretty blue and I can’t wait to get our tree so I can add it to my collection.  Isn’t that button in the middle amazing?

On another subject, I had this great idea in October that I was going to make a darling little Christmas quilt out of a Jovial charm pack and then give a Jovial charm pack away.  Well, that quilt was a failure.  What looked like good minimalism in a drawing turned out to look just plain boring in fabric.  I really love this line of fabric so I am planning to rework the quilt, but haven’t got there yet.

Anyway, if you’ve had the patience to read this far, I’m going to give the Jovial charm pack away anyway – quilt or no 🙂  To be entered to win the charm pack, leave a comment telling me if you are making any quilts (as opposed to quilted items) for gifts or if you’d like to, but haven’t gotten started yet.  Because, I know there are others like me out there who have lots of great intentions and ideas well in advance, but are a little more last minute on the actual sewing.

Edited:  Oops forgot to say, giveaway ends at the end of the day on December 2.

Your mitten ornament is beautiful. Love the stitching on it!

I had wanted to finish up a quilt for a friend of mine who is a single mom. She's had a rough couple of years and this one was especially hard for her. She lives a few states away and I wanted to do something to cheer her…I know she loves snuggling with her little girl. I've just realized though that I won't have time to quilt it and bind it before I leave to see my family for Christmas. So I'm moving my deadline to her birthday in February. Maybe I'll even have time to make one for her daughter too by then.

I'm making quilty items but no quilts this year. I'm making one Christmas stocking for a new daughter-in-law (officially in March) and some mug rugs.

    Your mitten ornament is cute!

I'm making two quilts for Christmas presents this year: one drunkards' path (that I finished yesterday, yay!) and one owl quilt that I'll be starting this weekend. 🙂

I picked up some yardage of Jovial with the intention of making a tree skirt, but haven't started it yet. Only 1 quilt as a gift this year and I'm at the quilting stage, so may actually have it done on time!
    Cute ornaments!

I've made 4 quilts for my kids this Christmas plus 2 more baby quilts for new babies on the way. That's a great charm pack for another new quilt!

I just finished and got back from the LAQ today a comfort quilt for my aunt. My daughter is giving a quilt I finished a few months ago to her brother and sister in law for Christmas. But making a quilt for Christmas this late? Crazy!

I'm working on several quilts right now, along with a ton of other projects. It seems like I don't start my holiday projects until just before that holiday and then by the time I am done that holiday is long over and my to-do list just gets longer.

Sorry I missed the meeting and swap – was in St. Louis for work. I made a quilt that I think I will give my parents for Christmas/50th anniversary. I have hopes of getting one done for one of my sons but since I have yet to start it may only be a good intention.

I am giving away 2 quilts this year. One is finished and the other has the top done only! EEk – I don't like to leave things to the last minute but my good intentions are not always good enough! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

No! No quilts going out this year! I made 5 last year between October and December. It wasn't fun so this year, they are all bought presents. I do have a lot of wip's that would be great to finish as a present to me… But we will see.

Thanks for the giveaway! I would love to see pictures of your 'boring' quilt.

I'm working on a quilt right now for my sister's birthday, which is December 28th, so Christmas is really my deadline. It's a layer cake that I turned into all half square triangles and I'm going to attempt a value quilt. We'll see how that turns out!

This charm pack looks very pretty so thanks for sharing your bounty 🙂

I'm not making quilts for Christmas gifts – that sort of thing probably wouldn't be appreciated when the temperature hovers over 90*F! LOL

Hi! I made some lap quilts for gifts this year and other than a few threads to snip they are done. It's the first time I've hit December with most of the gift making complete. Still have a few others hand-made items to complete but feel like I'm sitting okay right now.
By the way, your mitten is cute!

With Christmas just around the corner, I'm rushing to finish a quilt for my granddaughter… and fingers crossed, it may just be ready. Problem is that it should have been ready last year; I just didn't like it and kept tearing it apart. Now there's patience; she's such a sweetie to wait until I get it right.

I just finished a small quilt for a friend who is getting married on Saturday. I have plans to make a few more for my sisters (should be sewing now!). I also want to make some pillows, some pjs, and a few hats. HA!

I have the blocks made for my husband's grandmother's quilt, but it's taking me awhile to sew them together – much less do all of the rest of the steps!
