05 Sep QA Gifts Giveaway
The new Quilting Arts Gifts is out! Aren’t those little bird ornaments on the cover darling? I enjoyed last year’s issue so much that I submitted a project to this one and they included it!
My Holiday Ornament pillow project is on page 62. Those of you who were reading this blog last holiday season may recognize this pillow as part of a series of red and white pillows I made then. I love the shape of the ornament on this pillow! I used the same shape for the quilting.
Quilting Arts added recipes to this issue too. Everyone who submitted projects was asked to include a favorite recipe. Mine is for Cream Cheese Cookies. I’ve been making these cookies since I was in high school (we won’t discuss how long that has been :)). They are fast and easy and when I take them to a gathering I know that there won’t be six other plates of the same thing.
OK, now for the giveaway part – I’m giving away a copy of this Quilting Arts Gifts magazine! Leave me a comment and tell me what small gift you love to make. We all love to make and give quilts, but what do you like to make when you need or want a smaller gift? You can enter until the end of the day Thursday, September 8. International entries are welcome!

My favorite small gift is zippered pouches, probably because I can never have too many myself.

Posted at 21:12h, 06 SeptemberI enjoy making small jewelry items – a bracelet or simple necklace when I need something quickly. I also do food gifts a lot. This year I am thinking of making some of those 'coffee cozies' for all those last minute small gifts that seem to come up during the holidays, or candle mats – so tiny quilty things. Would love some new ideas from the magazine! Thanks for the chance to win it.

Posted at 19:54h, 06 SeptemberWonderful news about your pillow do I recognize that gorgeous red fabric?) The magazine looks to be full of inspiration ! About your question: for small gifts I like potholders, drink coasters, aprons (the unisex kind) and tea towels (very practical). Or how about a wine bottle cozy? 🙂

Posted at 16:28h, 06 SeptemberThe pillow looks great! Congratulations for the pattern !
As for small gifts… I don't really make handmade gifts because people don't always understand what handmade means, the time and effort needed for such a small … whatever 🙂

Posted at 16:20h, 06 SeptemberMy last minute "go To" gift is a bottle of wine in a cloth gift bag with ribbon ties. They can drink the wine and then re-use the gift bag to give a bottle to someone else later, or immediately!

Posted at 06:58h, 06 SeptemberCongratulations on being published, the pillow/cushion is lovely. I love that series of cushions you made. Sometimes I make gifts for people, but last year the best thing was gathering little crafting goodies to start the makings of a craft box/kit for a new quilter/crafter, with the beginnings of a library of free patterns to tempt her

Posted at 03:40h, 06 SeptemberI'm new to sewing so I haven't sewn any gifts yet (though I hope to sew many in the years to come). I have made lots of little felted acorns for little gifts, though. Many I felt lavender into them so they can be used to drawer sachets.

Posted at 22:54h, 05 SeptemberCongrats on being in the Christmas issue! That pillow is a fabulous gift. My favorite go-to gift are drink coasters. I have a couple different quick ways to make them and I love to whip a set together for someone. Just made some for my son's new college apartment 🙂

What Comes Next?
Posted at 19:25h, 05 SeptemberFabulous pillow! I always pick up a copy of this magazine as it has so many great ideas and projects in it. In the past I've made soaps and beeswax candles to have on hand as quick gifts, but this year I'm planning on making note cards using left over bits and bobs of fabrics and trims.

Posted at 17:57h, 05 SeptemberI love that pillow of yours! Can't wait to see it inside. It's already inspiring me! That magazine looks SO FUN! I think I could gleam some fresh ideas from it for sure. (Will be forced to buy it if I don't win it, I can already see that!) I don't generally need quick small gifts. At the age I've now reached, peope don't really need anything more. So I make them a fabric postcard greeting http://www.flickr.com/photos/30867529@N03/sets/72157622145344044/ which becomes a gift in itself. Many times I'll just send one to brighten a friend's day too.

Posted at 17:16h, 05 SeptemberGreat pillow! Would love the cookie recipe. My go to for quick thank you gift is peanut brittle in a pretty bag or some homemade raspberry jam (not so quick but if I make enough in August I always have a jar on hand).
