The Bee’s Knees Finished!

While I was on my retreat what seems like months ago (really two weeks), I quilted my Bee’s Knees quilt.  This poor quilt has been waiting for me to get it quilted for WAY too long.  I pinned it last June, thinking I would quilt it while my daughter and I were on our East Coast college tour.  Well, that didn’t happen 🙂  It is hard to see the quilting in this photo but I echo quilted inside the houses and quilted diagonal lines in the background.  In the first three columns of blocks, the lines go from upper left to lower right, the next two columns go from lower left to upper right, and then back to upper left/lower right for the last three columns.

I love the way the quilt turned out!  The black and white houses and background and all the different doors to the houses contributed by my fellow Bee’s Knees group give me the feeling of a cheerful, snug community on a snowy night.  I still need to make a good label to be sure I can remember who made which blocks for me, but I can’t really do that until I decide what to call this quilt.

I cannot come up with a good name for this lovely quilt!  It is driving me a little nuts.  Everything I think of sounds either hokey or snarky.  I’d love a name that incorporates the community nature of a bee quilt, the winter night idea and the fun of so many nearly identical houses with different doors.  Any ideas?

Love this quilt and it's design. Where can I get the pattern or tutorial? Would really like to make one. How about:"Warm hearts, warm homes?"

    Hi Debby,

I also was wondering if you have a tutorial for this house block and if I could have permission to use this image for the Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild blog? We do a cookie exchange style block swap and your quilt was one of the ideas pinned that I'd like to add to our ballot. Thanks. Karen S.

Hi- I love this quilt. I see on your blog you referenced that you showed how to make the blocks, but I haven't been able to find it on your blog. Could you point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Winter Twilight is my suggestion. I love the black and white with bright little spots of color.

It's a beautiful quilt! My suggestion is "welcome". The door, the community, the bee, all welcoming.

I love black-and-white quilts and yours is just wonderful ! Love the gradation of light to dark and just a hint of color here and there. The first name that came to mind is "Snow Homes". Check out this great picture of houses in Greenland: http://classic.wunderground.com/wximage/viewsingleimage.html?mode=singleimage&handle=carlskou&number=377&album_id=209&thumbstart=0&gallery=#slideanchor

This is SO beautiful! I want it!!

"Life In A Northern Town" is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. It's the title of a song by Sugarland.

I grew up in a northern community and this reminds me very much of driving through town on the way back to our farm on a winter's night. The only thing missing is a vastness of stars and northern lights. Perhaps they're on the back of the quilt.

Looks like a nice neighborhood. Your quilt turned out so nice. It is the first one that I have seen done, no Jenna's come to think of it. Mine is going to take quiet a while, as I have to make blocks for mine.
