Inspiration!

I went to the Brighton Modern Quilters meeting on Monday night.   We had scheduled a sit and stitch, but I forgot about that until I was walking out the door.  I went anyway and had a great time.  We all had lots of fun projects and ideas to share.

One of the members brought this book.  As soon as she held it up, I blurted out “Oh, I want that book so much.”  Of course, I didn’t mean HER book, but since it is not really her style, she offered to swap me a pattern or two for it and I jumped at the chance.  The cover quilt is a good indication of much of the content that I have browsed so far.  Spare design – right up my alley!  I can’t wait until I have a chance to sit down and actually read it 🙂  The title is “Quilting Line + Color:  Techniques and Designs for Abstract Quilts” by Yoshiko Jinzenji (published by Interweave Press).

There are so many great quilt books coming out, I could go nuts buying them.  I try to limit my buying to ones I think I absolutely MUST have.  That doesn’t always eliminate many of them.

Do you have a favorite new quilt book?

yes, this book was published in Japanese in 2005. And I think have seen the French version online. I preordered in months ago on amazon so when it arrived in January it was a lovely surprise. I've looked through it at least ten times already. While I find her instructions a little obtuse at times her products are inspiring. Just love everything in here. my other current favorite is Amish Abstractions: Quilts from the Collection of Faith and Stephen Brown. I see that stack of Kona solids in my closet and I don't know where to start — there are so many options!

My two recent purchases are: Serendipity Quilts by Susan Carlson, and collage + cloth = quilt by Judi Warren Blaydon. Of course I still have a dozen books on my wish list which covers a lifetime of potential projects. Journal quilts come to mind !

I have been looking for that book all over. It pricks my interest and must look at it (probably buy it). Can't see what you make from that book.

so, based on the cover, i think this is a five-years-later English language release of the a book that is out in Japanese and French. i would love to verify this. my email to the publisher was ignored. i love that book, but have it in French.

i have bought a few design books recently, but nothing in the quilts offererings has interested me since Malka's book
